I recently bought a kayak, and I was wondering what are some of the places you recommend where I can take it? I live close to the Algonkian Park, and I usually see kayakers in the summer and this is what inspired me to get a kayak myself. It's a beautiful location. But I also want to explore other area.

Another question is, do you need a permit / license to launch a kayak in Virginia?

Head west to the Shendandoah River. If you have a partner, the trip between Rt 50 and Rt 7 is nice. You just need to be able figure out how to have a car at the pull out point.

When we moved here 2 years ago, we were wondering the same thing. Check out benskayaksite.com for some great ideas. We especially like going to the Mouth of Monocacy in MD. It's off the beaten path and very peaceful.
