What is the current gas price?

Trying to gauge whether it is worth it to extend our house hunt further than Reston or Herndon. Hubby will be working in south Reston so is it worth it to find a place $200 cheaper a month in say, Manassas or Ashburn Would that savings just be gobbled up by gas costs? He drives an 05 Jeep Grand Cherokee, so not the most fuel efficient.

Ashburn is pretty close to Herndon so of the two I would go with Ashburn but to be honest Ashburn isnt cheaper than Herndon but Manassas is. As for gas prices they are around $3.55 a gallon but they change often and I wouldnt really focus on gas prices.

From what I've found manassas is about $200ish cheaper per month for our criteria. But I'm wondering if that $200 savings will get cancelled out in extra gas costs.

I live in Bristow which is right next to Manassas and have found gas prices to be 10 to 20 cents cheaper out here typically. Current price just around the corner from my house is $3.34. Count on getting the worse gas mileage possible as most of the driving would be stop and go. My husband drives a hybrid so he can use HOV and drives to Herndon. I would think about it in terms of not just gas, but also time and what you feel that's worth.
