While checking out the Money Magazine link in this thread about Prince William County, I came across this list of Money Magazine's 100 "Best" Places To Live. NOVA figures prominently in there with five appearances.

For Arlington, the % of students scoring above state means on tests look low. I realize that there are a lot of students who have English as a second (or third, etc.) language, which affects the scores, but there are also a lot of students who have had many advantages and likely score much higher. I'm not an expert on this though, so maybe someone else would know if the Money Mag. #s can be trusted on this.

But none as high as Waldorf, MD.

What was the criteria? I'm not surprised to see places like Arlington or Ashburn on the list, but would have expected McLean or Falls Church to be there before someplace like Dale City, especially if this forum is any indicator. Just curious.

the criteria is listed as "strong job opportunities, great schools, low crime, quality health care, and plenty to do". This is not a scientific study; just a bunch of journalists that pulled together a list of good towns/ cities. They make this list every year, and they rarely repeat towns. So, their ultimate goal is just to highlight some intereesting, nice places to live. Last year the NOVA listings were

Leesburg - 4
Herndon - 34
Oakton - 35

This list is "fun and games"; nothing, really, of substinance.

I see. I'll bet McLean got a low score for "plenty to do" if we're speaking of the town itself and not including the Tysons area.

They also factor in housing cost and commuting times. So towns/cities low on both fared well.

True, although that was primarily focused on Reston.

BTW, I'm having allergy issues myself. Hope you get that cough treated.
