Hi there

I am moving to a new job in Manassas. I am looking for a place to rent, but after reading posts about crime in Manassas I am not sure if I should rent in the city or somewhere else.

I have never lived in Virginia before. I am looking to spend not more than $1,300 on either an apartment or a townhouse. I don't mind if the place is a bit away from work, as long as the neighborhood is safe and clean. I am a single female in 30s, so safety is my main priority. I would like the commute to stay within around 40~45 minutes.

Could somebody suggests as to where I should live? Manassas or not? Which apartment complexes in Manassas would you recommend? What is the best way to go about finding an appropriate place to live?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
M

Manassas has a few areas that I would advise staying out of. Anything in Coverstone, Irongate, Westgate, Georgetown South are a few areas to avoid. No matter what complex you choose there will be a risk of some type of crime happening and I don't care how expensive the place is or where it is located. You might be better off listing what looks affordable or convenient to you and we could advise one way or another. Mind saying what section of Manassas the job is located?

You're more likely to be harmed in a car accident than by violent crime. Driving fatalities outpace homicides by about 3 to 1. If you're worried about personal safety live somewhere close to your work.

I live in Manassas, I guess in the Fairmont area neighborhood, it's very peaceful and quiet here. It depends on where in Manassas you will be working, since it is such a big city (well, to me at least). I have also lived on the other side of the city around the busy Sudley Manor road in Raven's Crest apts., it was also very nice there and had little crime. Manassas is not as bad as people make it out to be - I enjoy it.

Why don't you take a look at the Marque apartment building at Heritage Hunt. It's in Gainesville, just a short drive to Manassas. The building is brand new and has very nice facilities, also reasonable rents (although I'm not sure what they are right now). Lots of security there, too (not that you really need it in that area).

I know a couple people in the Bull Run area of Manassas near 66. They live in nice townhouses and I've never had an issue when I visited at all hours of the night.

Also Manassas covers a HUGE area beyond the city borders. There are mini-mansions with Manassas addresses. So you can't paint Manassas with one broad stroke.

I've lived in Manassas for 11 years and never had any trouble. I even lived 'next-door' to one of 'those' neighborhoods (Coverstone) and was just fine and even lived in one of those neighborhoods (Iron Gate). I like Manassas a lot and now live not too far away from the City Center Apartments.

I live in Sudley, off Sudley Manor going towards Splash Down Waterpark, and it's nice and quiet here.

I heard the same thing when I moved here but after a few years I now think that the whole area is pretty safe.
