My daughter is interested in volunteering with animals and this shelter is one of the few that allows volunteers under 16 (with a parent of course). Has anyone had any experience with this shelter, either as a volunteer or adopting from them? Is it a pleasant place? well run? Thanks for any input.

I adopted my cat from there eight years ago. We were impressed - it wasn't a depressing place at all. You could see the cats through glass windows with information sheets, and if you wanted to meet one, the staff would bring it to a little room with chairs where you could pet the animal and visit with it. Once we'd made a decision, we filled out paperwork (including references), and then had to return to pick her up three days later.

They seem to really care about placing their animals. They have special discounted fees for older animals, and they have special adoption events - for example, this month is "Catsgiving" - no spay/neuter fees for cats and kittens.

Very pleasant place. We sometimes go up there just to visit with the cats, and it's always seemed like a well run and caring place. Our experience adopting a out there was also very good. We also had to wait a few days for our cat, but instead of going back to pick him up, they sent him to our vet, and we picked him up there. I liked that they did this because it made sure we had a good vet.

I can let you know a little bit later. Actually have my volunteer orientation this Saturday. Looking forward to working with the dogs.

One of my former co-workers is a volunteer there. She loves it.
