We only have boring old grey squirrels out in my neck of the woods. We had an albino one about 7 years ago, but we only saw him for a few months. Now it's just grey, grey, and more grey.

No black squirrels--I feel jilted!

I had an unfortunate incident about a month ago where my driving instincts and an albino squirrel's road-crossing instincts were in less than perfect sync. One of us survived, but I felt that I'd probably have seven years of bad luck as a result. Fortunately, the local crows made away with the carnage within 24 hours.

What part of Alexandria? Would be odd if there weren't black ones in Old Town as I assume they'd have had to pass through there to get here.

CAVA, I think I'm just a few miles north of you up the parkway, and they're all grey here. Hmmm!

That's interesting. Are you North of Wellington? Do you have chipmunks?

Yes, I'm north of Wellington (Morningside Lane area). Now that you mention it, I can't remember the last time I've seen a chipmunk around here. I wonder why.

Since living in Cascades/Sterling for past 2 years, have seen black, grey and white. A week or so ago I saw a handful of brown in Herndon. Actually quite pretty. Wouldn't mind them as much.......as long as they learn to stay out of the birdfeeder!

When we lived in Loudoun County I saw only grey squirrels.

When we moved out to Winchester, I thought I was seeing things (never saw a black squirrel in NOVA). I think we have just as many or more black squirrels than the grey ones.

BTW, thanks for the article; very informative. Makes me wonder how the little things crossed the mountains into the Shenandoah but appear to have problems crossing-over the beltway!
