If anyone remembers I was debating whether to stay in Tallahassee with a higher salary/not-so great job, or moving for lower salary/more-promising-job.

I have moved, me and my wife and we are currently crashing in Alexandria. I move into my place in Manassas Park on Oct. 29th.

After doing some research I am wondering if there are any drawbacks to using Lee Highway instead of I-66 when making my commute from Manassas Park to Tyson's corner (where I work). Let me know, I plan on doing this instead of the Google Maps/GPS suggestion:

1) Left on Manassas Dr.
2) Right on Rt. 28
3) US 29 N Ramp
4) Left on Nutley (VA-243)
5) Right on courthouse Rd.
6) Right on Maple Ave. (rt. 123)
7) Get off onto Ring Rd.
8) Turn right onto Towers Crescent Dr. (Where I work)

Will the above substitute for the use of I-66. My commute time will be 5:30 AM in the morning and 3:00 PM in the afternoon.

Thanks.

At that time of the morning, I'd have to believe that taking 66 to Nutley would be much faster than taking 29. I used to cut thru the metro, cross over Nutley and take Kingsley to Park to Cedar to Gallows and then a right onto ? (i think it's Old Gallows) You drive over the bridge that crosses Rt 7 and your office is right there

Good deal, I guess my quest to avoid traffic is unnecessary at that time... Cool beans.

I don't know that road well and so have no suggestions, but I just wanted to pop in and say welcome to Virginia.

Is Kline's Freeze still open? It is right by Manassas Park and the ice cream is delicious.

It was open Saturday night when I drove by there. First time I think I've seen it without a line too.

At 5:30am, you should be OK to use I-66. I-66 becomes HOV2 inside the beltway after 6:30am and 4pm on the return.
High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Systems

If you're trying to avoid highways, I'd try US-29 to VA-698 (Cedar Ln) to Gallows RD. Not as direct, but faster.

Maple Ave can be incredibly slow. Maybe that time of the morning won't be so bad, but there have been times it's taken me 10 minutes to go 3-4 blocks.

Ok folks: @ Caladium, I apprecaite the warm welcome, and to the rest for the great advice, thanks alot. It seems like the general consensus is that this time in the morning should be just fine on I-66. Suhweet!
