It was so funny to see all the new stations carrying a story about Michelle Obama sneaking out to go to a Target in Alexandria. Here's what I wonder: do they drive her over there in an unmarked car? You're not exactly sneaking out if you take the presidential limo.

I saw Laura Bush go into an art gallery in Arlington. It was 2 unmarked crown victorias. I guess one went up ahead to clear the gallery, then she went in when the coast was clear. No blazing sirens or anything. I remember doing a double take when I saw her get out of the car.

The
Chicago Tribune said the agents got there before she did and were dressed casually. (One photo in the link shows one of them behind her, in a white t-shirt and baseball cap.) I would guess that another one probably drove her in an unmarked SUV, with other unmarked vehicles nearby.
I've always thought she's so nice and--normal. I can't imagine she'd actually need to buy anything, given that the White House has a huge staff, but I'm sure she wanted to escape the bubble and feel like a regular person for a while.

That's farther away and harder to get to. Potomac Yard is 15 minutes (or less) from the White House, which is in the south corner of DC, via Constitution/66/110--or Const eastbound to 395S (via the 9th Street exit) to 110.
