Are there any nice park around for jogging? Any decent malls for shopping? Any nice libraries or bookstore? Any good movie theaters?

There are jogging trails along the Potomac/George Washington Parkway. There is a library on Sherwood Hall Lane - take Rt. 1 South and take a left at the Wal-Mart stop lights. Nearest shopping mall would likely be at Pentagon City. That's metro accessible.

You can take the train to the next stop at Eisenhower and there is an AMC Theater there. Prepare for sticker shock though - movie tickets are $11. If I remember correctly, they have a special where you can watch a movie for only $6 on Saturdays before noon.

There really isn't much to do that is within walking distance of Huntington - I'm thinking you'll either have to drive or take the train for entertainment spots.

I lived about five miles south of there for a while and didn't care for it all. Was glad to get away from that area. IMO, the best part of living there, was that it was close to Old Town Alexandria.

Here's a good site to peruse:

Alexandria, VA - Northern VA Travel - Old Town Hotels, King Street Restaurants, Del Ray

During the warmer months, I like to stroll King Street. People watch, go into the shops along the way, eat in some of the restaurants, stop for a beer here and there, visit the waterfront and the Torpedo Factory Art Center. They also have a nice farmer's market.

Parking looks horrible though. Are there only parallel parking along the streets?

There are some parking garages in the area.

Or just take the Metro if you're coming from Huntington. There's a free shuttle from the Metro station to the riverfront, or it's about a 1.25 mile walk (obviously shorter if your destination is not at the riverfront).

There's the Torpedo Factory art center and a marina. They occasionally have festivals there, and a lot of the restaurants are clustered in the last few blocks before you get to the river.

Ok so the area isn't very walkable (outside of Metro), but how long does it take to drive to Old Town in rush hour? Outside rush hour?

How long for other places such as Tysons, etc?
