Hi I live 60 miles south from fairfax,VA. We started looking for new appartments/condos in Northern Virginia area rent ranging from $1300-$1600 for 2 bed, 2 bath/1bath. We have a 3 year kid and the main reason of our move is the place where we live doesn't have anything for kids fun except for schools. We don't have any clue which place to move. We do lot of shopping in Chantilly and fairfax area. So we started looking in those areas. I don't think there are many options available in Chantilly area. We didn't like the Chantilly crossing apartments and the other available is Chantilly park condos. I read both +ve and -ve ratings from the aparmentratings.com website but still not able to decide on how the condos are and the area is considering the activities for a 3 year kid. Can anybody please suggest some good neighbourhood's in NOVA area.

Thanks in advance...

Do you have work commute considerations? Depending on the job location/commute, Chantilly may or may not be a good location to live.

Orange is right--where are your jobs located? Your kid will have a tough time participating in the fun activities if mom and dad are stuck in traffic all evening!

Mom takes care of kid right now... dad is ok to commute because there is no other way for us to let my kid enjoy. Dad can commute up to 60 miles from his work place.... he can't leave his job for this move right now as there is another baby on the way due in couple of months...

So is your husband's job close to where you live now? Bear in mind that commuting 60 miles starting from NOVA is a world of difference from commuting 60 miles out in the country. I would advise against moving into the traffic mess that is Northern Virginia if your only reason is so there can be "fun" things for kids, if the job remains around where you live now. You'll get less living space for the dollar and your husband will be spending on gas, car wear and tear, and time (and what about severe weather days, too?). What kind of activities are you looking for, for a 3 year old? Play groups? Gym classes? Ice skating? I grew up in a small town in the middle of nowhere, but I managed to have plenty of fun with my friends and my parents never considered moving away from work for my sake.

Totally agree with this advice. Seek out moms groups to learn about playgroups, gum classes, etc. Through a quick Google search I found several YMCA locations in the Rappahannock area, and they have classes, host playgroups, and there's even a crafts program for kids as young as 3 years of age. Taking some classes at the Y sure beats moving into one of the worst traffic debacles in the country just for some fun time. Plus Dad will be closer to home, which will be even more important when the baby arrives.
