Marie Schumacher for Mayor, 2009! Speaking of the city council meetings, what has been up with Doug Miller as of late? He's a prime case of Jekyll and Hyde is he not? While president of the city's junior council, he was very pompous and scratched the proverbial backs of incumbents on both council, as well as the mayor. Now that he's decided to run for council himself he's turned very spiteful. Did Les Spindler take this kid under his wing, or what?!

NO he is taking his lead from Judy..........He supports the council and mayor no matter what but thats not going to get you elected so he has to come out as a concerned candidate that is here for the people but everyone can see right thru him.

Obama signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act today.

This is fantastic news for enforcing our existing anti-discrimination laws.

The Supreme Court had said that under current federal anti-discrimination law, plaintiffs only had 180 days to sue for pay discrimination after agreeing on pay. After the 180 day period, plaintiffs were barred from raising pay discrimination claims. But, as the argument went, employees more often than not don't find out about what others are getting paid until later (in fact employees in some industries are specifically instructed not to talk about the terms of their pay, making enforcement in this area particularly difficult). So the existing statute of limitations effectively prevented enforcement of our anti-discrimination laws on pay issues.

What this Act does is "overrule" in a sense the Supreme Court and institute a new 180 day statute of limitations after each paycheck.

I always thought Judy and Sherry were "friends" with Doug though. Sherry made some snide remarks towards Doug when he was leaving the podium along the lines of "Gee. I guess the campaign is underway?!" She also asked city Atty. Amil Minora about the logistics of being able to "ban" political candidates from approaching the podium because, in a way, it's free advertising for them. I must agree with her. I don't want to see Doug Miller, Pat Rogan, Gary DiBileo, etc. approaching the podium every week bragging about themselves in order to curry favor with the "little people." Whatever happened to going door-to-door to introduce yourself as a candidate, starting a web site, newspaper advertisements, etc.?

But its ok for THEM to use the public access channel to advertise themselves.

There are four of the five council members either up for relection or running for another office. Sherri herself with the direct stare into the camera and her little diatrip last week is in campaign mode. Judy is without question in a sudden caring campaign mode since 09' started.

Whats good for the goose is good for the gander.

In the case of Miller, Rogan, and DiBileo, you can't really deny them opportunity as citizens to address council simply becase they happen to be running (or might be running) for office, can you? Unless one of them came right out and made an obvious campaign speech ("Remember, vote for me, I'll plow your street!") there's really not a lot anyone can do.
