He used to be a long time district forester. He was awesome. Kudos to your group Dan. The good from this event will be long lasting.

Thanks for the expedient answer. As an anti-sprawl tree-hugger myself it sounds like I would have really admired him if I had been born a few years earlier to appreciate his hard work. I also agree that Dan deserves plenty of "atta boys" for putting this project together. He's become 100% disillusioned that anything he says at the council podium will evoke a reaction or encourage change, but that hasn't stopped him from trying to do something good for the children in the city.

If nothing else it will be a good stress reliever for parents and an opportunity to show a new generation that the "icky river" really isn't anything to be feared after all. I was just watching Mike Stevens yesterday on WNEP, and he did a story about a new rails-to-trail project in the Upvalley area. He interviewed a woman who said that the river was indeed "healing itself." Dan, have you been in contact with any of the local media about this? I know WNEP has their Public Service Bulletin Board that they air for community events, and I'm sure having cameras rolling at the derby will introduce more people to the event in hopes of making it even better attended next year.

Nah, I think most children are more mature and smarter than Ms. Fanucci.
