I had a friend who commuted about 45 mins from near Scranton. Summer not bad, winter can be rough. She worked off shifts too.

I think 'good' apartments may be rare there, but dunno really (you probably have an idea by now). Craigslist should be an indicator. Whatever the 'local' papers too... (that's as in newspapers...hardcopy/printed...which may also be online.

Real estate sites might have a few too...never know.

(Don't depend on ol' Fisheye, he might have escaped .)
I dont think 45 mins commute would be very feasible for me. I am looking for something within 10-15 miles of Sanofi. Anyways this is very helpful. Thanks again!

No; I'm still here! I just do not have a lot of information on where to rent. I only live one and a half miles away form Sanofi and, yes, I still work there as more of a full-time (part-time) Manpower temp.

I can offer advice on areas, depending on what the OP finds. Others on this forum can also help on location suggestions. Our weather, in this area, usually depends on altitude. Sanofi elevation is approximately 1200 feet above sea level. Mt. Pocono is approximately 1800 feet above sea level. Sometimes that 600 foot difference is all that it takes to make the difference between snow and rain. Stroudsburg is only about 600 feet above sea level - but the traffic can be miserable if there is an accident on I-80.

I can also (possibly) offer advice on the job - I originally started at that location (National Drug Company) in 1965 or 66. I also worked for Connaught in the 1990's and now Sanofi. I have watched the place change over the years.

I'll help if I can; the OP only has to ask. I just wish that I could help on housing.

Hey! Finally haha. So I have heard that Tannersville or Stroudsburg are good areas to live and commute. How true is that? Are there any housing options within 10-15 miles of Sanofi?

It would be great if you could offer small tips or dos and donts at this company? I am hired as a CFD engineer which is kinda like a contractual position.

Tannersville and south of there can have traffic problems. Route I-80 is notorious for accidents and road work. When that happens the traffic spills onto Route 611. From Swiftwater, if we want to shop, we head north to Mt. Pocono - but that could change when the 2000 rooms are completed for Kalahari? Our area is changing.

Of course there are back roads to take from Swiftwater. Areas you might want to check out could be any area that gives you multiple ways of access to work and the stores and reduces your travel distance. If you do not have it (which I presume do) get and use Google 'Earth' - the program is very informative. Start your searches in Swiftwater for apartments and then spread out. I don't think our local newspaper will be a lot of help; but you can try. Check Craig's lists and relators and if you want further advice; stop back.

Sanofi is growing at an ever increasing pace. We currently have four new buildings in various stages of construction. Right now we need more parking; which I think they are working on. Currently we have some of our workforce parking in one Mount Airy parking lot (first shift Manpower employees and some contractors). They have been running five buses to traffic those employees to the site.

Good luck and let us know how you make out!

I'll check craiglist and other resources and if I find something interesting I'll ask you more about that particular area. Thanks again!

This is possibly 'out of bounds', but after you look near Swiftwater, if you come up empty, places like Dunmore and Moscow MIGHT work. They'd be longer commutes and include maybe a few rough winter drives, but Dunmore in particular is much more city like with some stores, shops, restaurants, bars, colleges etc. and probably more rental housing and apartments. It's also 5 minutes to downtown Scranton (and its suburbs) with more places to go/do/rent etc.

Moscow is more countryish with a small downtown and some strip malls, restaurants, pubs etc

Maps say it's about 30 minutes from Dunmore and Moscow to Swiftwater but actual commute time depends on precise locations at both ends etc. It can be 5-10 mins better or worse depending on this stuff.

In places I lived, a 30 minute busy (white knuckle...) commute was pretty well the norm and many folks' were much longer. 10-15 minutes is a luxury. This one would be in pretty light traffic most of the time I think. (Of course it costs more to do the longer drive. You might find car pooling.)

Might be worth a look if you aren't pleased with what you find at first.

Fisheye?

The problem with those towns is the winter driving. Gouldsboro is one of the highest elevations in the Poconos and gets some of our worst weather. Route 380 is notorious for black ice and frequent snow squalls and even gets hit with some of the lake effect snow from the Great Lakes.

They do have some advantages; but why suffer if you do not have to suffer? Of course there is always the possibility that the OP cannot find anything close? Besides Swiftwater; I would also look at the Paradise Valley area, Henryville area. and maybe Cresco - all would be relatively quick commutes with multiple ways to come to work.
