I am looking to retire to NEPA. Clarks Summit seems an ideal area. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Do you want to live in an urban or rural area and why have you chosen NEPA? The area around the Borough of Clarks Summit is very nice but also very expensive. There are beautiful country homes and estates in the various Abington Townships (north, west, south and center); Glenburn, LaPlume and the Borough of Dalton round out the area. There are golf courses and recreational opportunities to enjoy and fine dining places like Patsel's. The Village of Waverly, just about in the center of the region, could have been transplanted from Vermont. Plenty of stores of all descriptions are in Clarks Summit, which means that you can avoid Scranton if you want.

Sounds like a great area. I currently live in SE PA, which is o.k., but much more expensive. Plus, we get the spillover from NJ. I'm looking for a nice area in PA without too much of a redneck feel, but within distance to shops, restaurants, etc. Thanks for your reply.

Clark's Summit and Clark's Green would definitely fit your bill, maybe more Clark's Green. A lot of retired people live in Clark's Green and Waverly. Old money type of towns. Clark's Green is quieter yet situated next to Clark's Summit. Because its situated in the highlands, expect more snow than Scranton and A LOT more than SE PA. There are also more overcast and rainy days in NEPA than SEPA and colder winters.

It is usually sunny here in SEPA. I didn't know about the many overcast days up there. Could be depressing. Thanks for that info.

Too much sun depresses me. Skin cancer...

Per the stats (on average over n? years...) about one day every two weeks it is sunnier in SEPA...and it rains about one more day every two weeks in NEPA...probably about the same day so it gets sorta counted twice?

BTW, is rain good or bad? (Do you garden?) Some folks like rain and some like snow. (How's the skiing in SEPA?)

Stats are fun. Are these significant enough to alter the decision of where one decides to live? It isn't like comparing Tampa and Seattle.
