So we just got a place (hopefully), in Dickinson, a nice house. HUGE. PRICEY!!

It is located near the hospital, can anyone tell me if there is a "ghetto" area? I have 3 children, and 3 dogs (huskies).

We just don't want to do anything stupid trying to live the dream, like put our children in danger. We live in IN right now, in a huge city. It has a ghetto, but it's nothing like Chicagos. (LOL)

Anyway, there are 4 of us going and splitting bills so we can save money, and eventually live the dream.

Like I said, our main concern is just the fact that it may not be in a good area? I thought maybe Dickinson was too small to have a "bad" area like I am thinking, being from a large city.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, scared, nervous, and hope we are making the right choice.

Thanks!!

You were right the first time. There's no ghetto area in Dickinson. Most of the neighborhoods are very well kept and the schools are all pretty good.

But you might have a neighbor or two that are neighbors from hell, like Alice Kravitz from the old program Bewitched. Generally, the neighbors are too friendly for city folk. Rural areas in ND usually don't have many neighbors, but there's often limited zoning and such.

I'm so jealous you found a house for rent! All I've seen so far from my research are apartments at $2000/mos. My husband currently resides in employee housing in Kildeer, but frequents Dickinson on an almost daily basis. He says it reminds him of a much cleaner Indianapolis (where I'm still living until we find a place to live in ND).

He said he sees women and children out during the day, but he also notices some roughnecks that look way out of place. Hope that helps! I'm curious about the area myself.

You better make sure you are directly dealing with the property owner, or a rental agency. There are a ton of scammers out there taking advantage of out of state people looking at renting long distance. Check with the county for records of the owner.

There isn't a "ghetto" like you are likely thinking of. There are trailer parks but those aren't bad. It isn't like there is a huge crime problem in one part of town compared to another. The whole town (at least where people live) is probably about 10-15 square miles. Not enough room for there to be "good/bad" neighborhoods.

There are some "bad people" like in any place but mostly people are friendly if relatively private.

It's unlikely that there's a single ghetto in the entire state. However, Nazis tried to take over the tiny little town of Leith, ND.

There are some down right dirty and ugly areas in North Dakota. There's a lot of cities that have done a pretty **** poor job at city planning, zoning etc.
