...What about Stanley, Watford, Crosby, Alexander, New Town, Dickinson, New England, South Heart, Others???...Wibaux, Plentywood, Sidney, Antelope, Others?

Canadians, chime in too please. You must be having the same issues.

Anyone care to discuss the changes, good and bad for all the other seldom mentioned towns in or near the Bakken or the Oil play areas?? If the town of Williston is suffering under this extreme population explosion, the other and many even smaller towns must be having some of the same growing pains too??

I'm surprised the ND forum doesn't have a Williston/Bakken Field sub-forum.

I live in the Fairview, Sidney area and it's booming just as much as Williston. Locals are putting up their houses and vacant land up for sale and some are sold within hours. Businesses are screaming for help but wages are still lower than Williston. Local bars and resturants are seeing record numbers of patrons and new ones are opening. Still the lack of housing (or price) is making non-oilfield workers think twice about staying here. Man camps and RV parks are popping up everywhere!!! On a personal note; I have been evicted from my house after the landlord sold the property where I have lived for the past 8 years. I don't blame him and he gave me the option of buying it first, but with the inflated price versus appraisal value I couldn't get a mortgage. BTW the buyers where from out of state and paid cash.

Dak,
Would that be Sidney, Montana you are talking about? I am definitely looking for work so I was wondering...

What were you wondering about chad5414? Lots of jobs in the MonDak area. What type of job are you looking for? The problem will always be housing. Fairview is known as Sugar Valley and Sidney has a sugar factory. That is another reason for the lack of available land; irrigated farm land is valuable around here.

Mainly looking at either some kind of construction position or a floorhand position on an oil rig but housing would be an issue with the shortage. I have several years experience on oil rigs but it's been about 6 years since i've laid eyes on one. I was actually livin in Butte until last June. Stayed there four years..

www.jobs.mt.gov for jobs in Richland and Roosevelt Counties. www.sidneyherald.com has an article stating the next wave of oil leases in these two counties have been approved.

I wrote an email to an editor of a newspaper just over the boarder in Canada. Yes, their housing situation is the same. Rents have skyrocketed. It seems like anywhere there, in order to find housing, it is worth to note that if you have a decent vehicle with reasonable gas mileage (which I don't, decent, but high mileage), is it worth the gas and trouble to travel a total of 6 hours round-trip everyday to work. For that matter, it is not exactly safe. It is more dangerous to drive exhaustively tired than it is for a drunk on the road at times.
