Was told to tell everyone and anyone that Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railroad is in need of employees. I did a quick search for jobs in N.D. and there are many listings. If the oil field isn't your thing, maybe the railroad is. Good Luck! BNSF - Careers - Job Search/Apply
Not sure what starting pay is. There are a lot of jobs with different pay. Just a guess but probably starting at around $50K and going up from there. Probably good bennies.
For instance, the big decision is to weather you will work on the train crews (actually running the trains), or you want to work MOW (Maintenance Of Way). Basically that is fixing anything and everything in the track system. Think tracks, switches, bridges, ties, etc.... Then you have the signal guys who handle crossing alarms, and all related signals for starting and stopping trains.
I only know this stuff from talking with my close friend. He has been at it for many years, is a VERY hard worker, but does well for himself.
Last year BN&SF was hiring down here in Sheridan. A friend went to work on a train crew for $0.85 a mile. At first, he kept getting bumped by senior people, but after a couple months he started running heavier and now is running 4,000 miles a half (2 weeks). So 8,000 miles a month at $0.85 a mile.

So he is grossing about $6800 a month. How many hours a week is he putting in?

Actual hours worked, I don't know because they get track hours, waiting hours, they get paid when they are hauled by van, they get layover pay, etc... I do know that he's only home a couple nights a week and when he is home is about 12-14 hours and then he's headed out the door again.
He doesn't have to put in those miles/hours, but he's trying to buy a home so he's pushing hard and wants to keep pushing for 2-3 years and he figures he'll have some barganing power in the bank.
