Hi all,

I have a few questions about Milton, North Dakota. I understand that it's classified as a ghost town...although, I'm from a very rural area now and from all online information it appears to be just a small town. The lack of stores and businesses doesn't bother us and it's what we're used to. But, I do have some questions...

1. Does the surrounding areas, say 1/2 hour to 45 minutes away, have job opportunities for the 16 to 21 year olds? My job and my hubs job situation is taken care of, but I'm wondering how our children will fair when the time comes to find a job.

2. What would be the closest town that has a grocery store, feed store, clothing store? (mom and pop places are great. It doesn't have to be a Walmart store)

3. What form of internet access would we expect there?

And, anything else you could tell me about the area would be great. Thanks in advance!

I'm not familiar with Milton in particular, but I can offer some advice on the area. As far as jobs, most kids in towns that size will have summer jobs but during the school months will concentrate on athletics and other activities. Having a summer job will reduce the worry of driving in the winter also. The nearest town with amenities will be Langdon, so I'd get used to making that drive a lot. If you have a day to spend and want to hit a lot of stores, you will want to go to Grand Forks. Smaller towns around will you will still have cafe's and convenience stores. You should be able to get high speed internet through your phone service provider, or your cable tv provider as part of a package. You will probably need a land line if the cell phone coverage isn't that great there, and you can get a dsl hookup through them. People usually stock up on the things they will need throughout the week and make the weekly trip into town for shopping. Sorry I can't be more specific to that community, but I'm sure someone can fill you in on more details.

Thank you, Tundra Dweller. That helps a lot. I see Langdon is a rather big town (to me, lol) and that solves the problem of the kids finding work. Summer jobs are great, and they're used to farm work too so should do okay.

I'm happy to see all the conveniences are there too regarding internet and cable. We only have dial up internet where we are now, so it'll feel like we're moving up.

Even going to the store once a week will be a treat. lol

Thanks again!
