re-registering cars in NC (DMV, inspections, renewal)

so my wife and i each registered cars in may/june last year when we moved here (and got the inspections). we both received registration renewal notices in the mail recently, and they have a section labeled "Owner's Certificate for Eligibility to Renew Registration." in that section on hers the Exp. Date is listed as 061511... does this mean we don't have to re-register until June 2011, or would that be the new expiration upon renewal? when i go online to try to renew her registration, it says it can't proceed because of an emissions violation, which i assume is because she hasn't gotten her car inspected this year ahead of the renewal.

also, i traded in my car already and am in the process of registering the new one. should i disregard my renewal notice for the old car, or do i need to notify the dmv separately about that? i plan to keep the same plate from the old car.

2011 is when the new, upcoming registration will expire. If you check the current registration, you should see an expiration date of June 15th, 2010.

The renewal stuff is confusing as heck for first-timers.
