western north carolina has alot of that espically in arts i think hendersonville,nc is a good place but mostly all western north carolina has alot of that
I want to relocate from Massachusetts to North carolina, but I am looking for a neighborhood that has plenty of art amenities. I am an artist myself and love theaters, live music and eco-conscious people. Could someone tell me where can I find that in NC? Also, I need affordable living! Perhaps I am asking for too much....
If you rent, I would say Chapel Hill or Asheville.
Asheville comes to mind immediately, but a lot of that "art" is folk art and a lot of folk artists are well...folk artists. To paraphrase (roughly) a quote from Rolling Stone, 30+ years ago, IMHO, "The difference between a lot of folk art and rubbish, is a blunt or two."
You might consider Beaufort and possibly New Bern on/near the coasts. I think the art is much better in Beaufort than in Asheville. Also, the small town of Oriental, on the Neuse River, also near the coast, has a pretty hefty art community on a per capita basis. Unfortunately, to live in either Beaufort or Oriental proper takes a lot of money, but within 5 miles is a piece of cake.
Pittsboro, just outside Chapel Hill is home to many artists and much less pricey than Chapel Hill/Carborro or Asheville. Close proximity to Chapel Hill/Carborro/Durham when people tend to be very eco-conscious.
