can you still buy your own fireworks for 4th of July in NC? Everywhere in the west they're outlawed. I miss having a nice family bbq and lighting fireworks in the comfort of our own backyard. In Arizona you have to fight traffic, deal with hundreds of thousands of people for a 10 min show. It stinks
Specifically Permitted: Sparklers, fountains, smoke devices, snake and glow worms, trick noisemakers, and toy pistol caps. Specifically Prohibited: Explosive or aerial fireworks, roman candles, and rockets or similar devices.

South Carolina law is much more lax, and thus there are many fireworks stands set up right along the border...

Oh yeah. South Carolina is the way to go. Not that I would know...
Various types of fireworks were already outlawed when I moved to NC in 1960, but you could still buy some very powerful 4th of July type explosives along the NC/SC border. Probably been outlawed now in SC too, in their quest for a risk-free world.
I go across the state line on I-85 into SC to get mine. In NC, they have fireworks stands set up in all the parking lots and in the grocery stores near the 4th. But the stores are limited as to what they can sale.
Everyone I know has always made the trek to SC to buy the fireworks (which has year round outlets) to purchase them, and bring them back to NC for the 4th.
The best place to buy imo is Sheltons fireworks in SC, its off I-85 in Blacksburg, SC exit 104. Huge outlet thats never overcrowded and has more than you could ever imagine there. Go and check it out, youll be amazed.
Avoid the places off of I-77 at the NC/SC border by Carowinds. Always crowded, the stores are a mess, and they dont have the best selection.
When I lived in Illinois, we had to go to Missouri for good fireworks. When I lived in Oregon, we had to go to Washington. Why do I always seem to move one state away from fireworks!

Nah, South Of The Border is still there and packing just about anything you could want. I think fireworks sales are the only thing keeping that place open.
