I spoke to Thom Tillis's aid this afternoon. I was told the budget will be on the governor's desk Saturday. If she signs it we are good for next week. If she does not sign it and she vetoes it they will vote to override the veto on Monday.

I do not understand what the recurring money is but if the governor drags her feet then our state is in jeopardy of losing that money. So I think it is looking good for us or can this be the light at the end of the tunnel.

I hope so that is for sure

I agree with this article. As a 15-year education veteran, I always joined the NCAE but never really agreed with their radical agenda and their tactics. Being a special educator, however, I most certainly needed their "safety net" of liability insurance and legal help should the need arise. This service is not offered by anyone else (or wasn't when I first started. I think there is now one other alternative to the NCAE???) for teachers and, if you should be sued, there is not really anyone else who will back you, not even your own school system.

I know others who joined for this same reason, not necessarily because they agreed with the NCAE. And don't get me started on the budget and some of Perdue and the state dept.'s concerns over the education shortfall.

To summarize this, the 5 house democrats came together and worked with the republicans to come up with a final deal for this budget. They are going to vote for it, since it's part of their deal and if Perdue vetoes it, they will stick together to override the veto. From what I also understand, there are two more democratic supporters on top of the 5 which makes it a total of 7. Hang in there, buddy, we're almost there....
