I have a question and not sure if anyone can help but Im willing to try anything. My son is in high school now and he has attended school in gaston county for the last four years. He is an outstanding baseball player. Last January our house caught on fire which left us having to find somewhere else to live . I have a family of six my husband and I and 4 kids. The only thing availble for us to move into at the time and last minute was my husbands deceased grand parents house. We just recently found out that our house is out of school district but only by 5 tenths of a mile. My son was just removed from the ball team due to us being out of district and because some parents were complaining that my son was out of distrct and due to his ability on the baseball field he was causing other kids to sit the bench and also was fixing to be put on the varsity team as a freshman. Now i was also made aware by one of the coaches that there are several other kids on the team out of district but my son is the only one being reprimanned for this. what I need is advice on what I can do and why is it not an option to pay for him to go there until we can get back in district they said the school was over crowded but he is already there and has been for 4 yrs so it is not like he is taking a space,..if you can help please please let me know.

Try contacting the school board and asking for a waiver. If you are planning to rebuild they should grant it to you. If you are not, then you may have to accept the zoning but you never know. Do you have other kids that went to this high school? Is there a certain field of study or program that this high school has that you especially would like your son to be in. Think of a reason beyond baseball to go to that particular high school.

I feel for you here. My daughter plays softball and the parents and kids are so much like the one's you describe. She too is very good and this year was a freshman starter on the varsity team. The beginning of the season was really tough. Every day before practice she had to put up with countless pranks. They tied her glove to the top of the flagpole, they taped her locker shut with an entire roll of duct tape, they tied the shoe laces of her cleats and threw them over the power line. It all ended after she hit a double that brought in the tie run and the winning run to beat a district team that they were suppose to loose to.

Good luck with the waiver but if people in that area are so small and so petty a move might turn out for the best in the long run. It's always nice to find out who your friends are when the going gets rough. I wish you well.

You could complain to the state high school athletic assoc., but I find it hard to believe a coach would knowingly play out-of-district/ineligible players and risk forfieting games.

mm mary hit the nail on the head. The team could be required to forfeit games if they use a player living outside the district. It can happen to very good teams, and could mean a team getting kicked out of the playoffs. Interesting that the team seems willing to take the risk with lesser players!

I wish you luck finding a new home to call your own..
