OK. I know what you mean, but still ... here we've had sporadic outbursts about illegal immigrants, and now we're going to have these people charging the streets?

I'd like to get over there and look at the area; see how it has/is changing. I remember first visiting Kannapolis in the company of a realtor waayyy long ago. The downtown area had been refurbished into shops, furniture stores, other tourist tat stuff. Lately, it's been touted in homage to Dale Earnhardt, with a statue erected in his memory (I think his mom still lives in that area). I hear that the Pillowtex plant (which you could once tour and see how your binkies and bath towels were made )has been torn down, and the lake that was once a centerpiece of the town filled in.

For a bit of colorful and wrathful history of the area and industry, along with Murdoch's continuing interest, check this out

I plan a ride over there, once my bike is out of the motorcycle hospital. I'm interested in revisiting the area, but only in conjunction with something I enjoy doing.

That's what my salesperson at the Farm was telling me about. Lots of things planned around that. We will be approx 10 miles from there I guess.

We moved to NC some 8 years ago during the IT boom. In 2001-2002 everything took a big hit. 2004 began seeing a major change with the announcement of FedEx opening shop. In 2005 it was the turn of DELL. In 2006 it may be (hoping) Toyota. Real estate which was flat til 2004...has started picking up. See a lot of FL, MD and GA residents moving in. Housing is still afordable. Projected growth as per the builders guild is 7-8% here in Winston Salem-Greensboro and 10-12% for Raleigh and Charlotte areas.
NC is truly a good place to move to. Good Colleges and hopefully some good employers in the future. It currently has Wachovia, Sara Lee, RJR and a ton of mortgage Insurance firms.

There are 2 biotech centers currently under construction in NC. The one is Kanapolis is the smaller one . There is another one in Winston Salem being built. (triad Research Park). Gov Easley was projecting a total of 40,000 biotech jobs in the triad. Construction is proceeding at full blast. 3 new biotech firms have opened shop here in the last 2 years. Many more to follow.
