Okay, here's the story...I lived in NJ most of my life. My daughter was born & raised here. After many years of visiting NC, we decided we loved it and moved to Asheville last year. However, it was REALLY bad timing on my part (my daughter was going into Senior year in HS)!! Needless to say, she didn't do well emotionally so we ended up coming back to NJ so she could finish HS with her friends. It wasn't so great for me as I had a really hard time finding a job (hospital work). Now we're back and missing NC so very much and we both talk about how we want to go back. She's in school for Cosmetology/Make Up Artistry and will graduate in June. Obviously, she'll need to be near a bigger city and I suppose I will, too for work. A few people told me the Raleigh/Durham area is really where we need to be. Any suggestions? I've been looking online and see the surrounding towns look nice (Wake Forest, Cary, Winston-Salem...etc) but obviously I won't know until I see it in person (I'm planning a trip in April). I would appreciate all and any help. Thank you!!

I think you answered your own question. You won't know for sure what you want until you visit. You may also want to consider renting for a year when you do decide to move so you won't be at the mercy of a lousy real estate market if you have second thoughts.

If you like Asheville for the mountains and the weather you'll find that Raleigh is in a totally different part of the country. If you want to stay within a reasonable driving distance to the mountains consider Charlotte or Greensboro. There are some great hospitals in Winston Salem too.
Good luck.
