My sister's and I are at the crossroad in our lives. The crossroad where you have to decide whether to stay and continue struggling to fit into a community that will never accept you, or pick up the pieces and move on. The people are nice, mostly. But there isn't much to do in the mountains, aside from sex, drugs and alcohol. We've had bomb threats at the middle school. There are security guards at the high school. A little more than I can handle. So, relocating sounds great. We lived in Havelock long ago, on the Marine base. Loved the area, hated Andrew. Can anyone tell me something about Eden? Anything would be wonderful...
I don't have any first-hand knowledge of Eden, but I never heard anything bad about it. I believe that in the late 1960's, Eden was created from the towns of Leakesville, Spray and Drapper.
You weren't talking about the mountains of NC in your original post, were you?
Forgive me for not being clearer on that. The south-western area where we live right now is refered to by the residents of Uniontown as the "mountains". Thank you for the info, everything can help.
It is a very small town in rural Rockingham County. Greensboro is the largest city nearby, maybe about 30 miles to the south of Eden. Martinsville, VA is a short drive to the north, but Martinsville isn't that great of a place.
The economy in Rockingham County isn't very hot - it is based on agriculture and manufacturing, and the manufacturing side has taken a hit. You could make a commute to GSO if necessary, although it could be an hour drive with traffic depending on where you live and work.
Thank you for that information. It was exactly what I was looking for. I can't thank you enough.
