I repeat, a law enforcement vehicle stops for other reasons than just emergencies. Regardless of why he is on the side of the road, HE IS STILL ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. You as JohnQ Citizen do not get to decide whether or not YOU think his reason for stopping is good enough for you to have to move over. Your sense of entitlement here is just stunning!
Very well said. It is rare that someone will admit that they deserved the ticket they got.
According to a national poll by Mason Dixon Polling & Research, sponsored by the National Safety Commission:
* 71 percent of Americans have not heard of “Move Over” laws;
* 86 percent support enacting “Move Over” laws in all 50 states; and
* 90 percent believe traffic stops and roadside emergencies are dangerous for law enforcement and first responders.
Slow down, put your flashers on, an move over ASAP when safe. At least the officer will know that you observed him by putting on your flashers while attempting to move over.
This info is included in the drivers test to get your NC license, maybe you just forgot it when you got yours?
I am one of those that had no idea about this law. There are so many new people moving in that aren't going to know this. A sign on the freeway wouldn't have put me on notice that I should move over.
I think in theory it is a good law but its application can be flawed depending on the cop.
Big Country...I am sorry that you got a ticket. Thank you for posting this so I and my husband will now know to move over.
Can't say for sure, there are so many people here I obviously confused you with someone else
So hey, when you first took that test 18 years ago, did you pass on the first try? I was shocked to fail it the first time myself! There were so many state laws that we didn't have where I was coming from that I had to really go study the booklet before I retested.
I have lived here my whole life mostly, so it was not hard I guess. I took the written test at 15 for the learners permit (I remember studying that little hand book). I was 16 when I took the drivers test and that's all I needed for a license. My short term memory was also much better back then....haha
