What age? There are plenty of good schools....my kids went to Stoney Point Elementary, would have gone to John Griffen Middle, and Jack Britt HS, all were VERY GOOD (elem first hand, and neighbors loved middle and high schools, test scores were best in the county, or in the top 3) There are others that made my list of "good schools where we can look for houses"

Raleigh road and Long Hill are better than Howard Hall in terms of scores. Check the nc report card for each of them to compare.

Here are the elem. schools that made MY list (summer 06) of schools I would to send my kids to:
C. Wayne Collier,
Eastover Central
Grays Creek
Gallberry Farms
Lake Rim (was a "maybe")
Melvin Honeycutt
Stoney Point
Rockfish (NOT rockfish/hoke, some results will come up with Rockfish but will have a Raeford address or will not have Southview for a high school, you don't want those!)

Good luck.

The area of Long Hill Elem. in the Pine Forest area is good, and the school has great test scores. Seventy first HS is nearby and there is an elementary school there, Hefner, that has great test scores as well.
Other elem schools in those areas with decent test scores are Brentwood (71st) and Howard Hall (Pine Forest).
Good luck!
