So, people who have degrees don't live in Laurinburg? Seriously?? It may be your "opinion" but it's wrong! You really don't like this state, do you?

We're not talking about programming, we're talking about operating the machines. No 4 year degree needed for that. And the companies wouldn't be investing millions of dollars in building these new plants if they couldn't find a workforce.

Industrial robots are automated and do not need an operator, just a programmer

So? We are talking about computerized textile machinery, not industrial robots.

But everything said about Billy Bob is true. Billy Bob likes to tell it like it is, so....

Trades are important too. Not everyone needs to go to college. Education can be great for pulling people out of poverty, but so can learning skills like plumbing.

And certainly plenty of people with college degrees do live in Laurinburg (home of St Andrews University).

I agree that manufacturing in the US is very different now than it was when kids worked in the textile mills in North Carolina, and that's a good thing!

Even if you are not talking about a 4 year degree typically, it takes 4-5 years of combined education (which includes math, problem solving and computer skills) and on-the-job training to become a fully trained CNC operator and they make around $40K+ in NC.

While I do cringe a little bit and the hypocrisy of the "billybob" label; there is credit in the argument that the folks that would be labeled with that stereotype do tend to be the ones who have some deep disdain for "PC" culture and basically feel they should be able to say whatever they want about whoever they want whenever they want...

It's been pretty widely noted that the rural-white- non-college educated voter turnout is what won the election for Trump and why the federal and many state (including NC) legislatures are Republican-dominated. Pundits and the general public can and will interpret that however they want.
