You can look up the state's report on all schools at NC School Report Cards .

I don't know anything about the Watauga County schools (Boone) from personal experience, but they do always score pretty well.

Asheville has two area schools systems, Asheville City Schools and Buncombe County Schools.

So by looks of it,Western NC is not the place for all 3 things. Nursing School,Economically Sound and Good Schools in ONE TOWN....sigh..I know economically Franklin wasn't that grand when we lived there but we managed. Our other option is up around Roanoke,Va.

I would look at areas around Winston-Salem...there are some excellent schools in Forsyth County and Wake Forest Baptist has an excellent nursing program. Nursing Students - Wake Forest Baptist, North Carolina You will find a great arts community there, with loads of live theater, a symphony, an opera, museums, and a beautiful downtown arts district. DADA - The Downtown Arts District Association of Winston - Salem Shopping is excellent in the city with one of the best malls in NC...you won't find many luxury retailers, but the shopping is adequate with stores like H&M and Trader Joe's. Proximity to the mountains and the hilly terrain make it a beautiful area and it's very family-friendly.

Winston-Salem and the Triad in general is definitely worth a look.

What field would you be looking in? "Economically sound" is general but might not include your field; conversely, there may be places that are hopping in your field but not so hot overall.
