Associated Materials Inc. announced plans to invest $5 million to expand its manufacturing operations in Kinston, adding 252 jobs over the next five years.
The company, which offers building products and services, is parent to one of Kinston's largest employers, Alside Window Co.
Associated Materials currently has 540 employees.
The N.C. Commerce Department did not list local or state incentives with the expansion.
I'd like to note that these jobs are skilled/technical jobs being added, which means, history shows, people will likely be moved into the area to work them. It's still a good thing, but wanted to point it out because people always say there are no jobs in ENC, when the truth is there are no unskilled jobs in ENC, but with the right education in the right fields you are set. As can be seen by the number of people who are transferred into ENC to work.
edit: I'll take that back, there are plenty of unskilled jobs at poultry plants and such, but there are no "unskilled" middle class work. At least not anymore, since textiles/manufacturing left ENC at large.
