My husband and I are looking to relocate from Southeastern Arizona to North Carolina. We were leaning towards Asheville but are open to suggestions. We are middle aged and have no children. We do have pets and are looking for an area that is not full of children and is tolerant of pets. Our dogs are very well trained and I have competed with them in various dog sports. My husband is looking for jobs in the trucking or IT areas and I would like to work in the interpreting field. We are not party people and attend Unity and participate in Reiki circles. We would prefer a tolerant community which does not endorse breed baning. We would like to find a quiet community which does mandate HOAs. Any suggestions? I'm a 15 year transplant to Arizona from New Jersey and my husband is a Tucson native. Thanks.

I'd suggest re-posting your question on the Western NC sub-forum. I think you would fit well in Asheville.

I had to look up "Unity". Is it a religion? At any rate, the are two Unity organizations in Wilmington and two in Raleigh.

So far, I don't know of North Carolina communities which ban dog breeds, but you may have problems if you are renting an apartment.

But several counties in NC HAVE tried to pass breed bans. This page may be of some help in your search.

I'm not sure what area of SE AZ you are currently living in, but you will find a number of differences that you need to consider when comparing the SE AZ area to Asheville.

1. Weather - it's way colder in Asheville
2. Cost of Living - it's way higher in Asheville (do look at those RE and income taxes)
3. You will still find a religious bent in Asheville that is not as prevalent (IMHO) as SE AZ
