This makes no common business sense to me. Why would anyone open a textile mill here when wages, overhead and operating costs are 1/8 th the expense in countries like China. Not to mention - Obamacare "taxes" ready to hit the playing field. Maybe they are creating a testing ground to develop a market niche' to then later move production to another country?

$5k a year in wages in China versus $50k a year in the USA - why would anyone build a manufacturing business in NC ?

Don't fret... that too will come. Soon enough too.
But moving operations offshore comes in the second phase.

The first phase is to move operations out of the union heavy northern city (in this case Chicago)
where they have all the industrial and trade and transportation resources needed to develop into
a successful business... to some job hungry non-union southern community that will be happy to
be offered those jobs and to do that same work for far (far!) less in wages and benefits.

This is not a new phenomenon.

If you already have a successful manufacturing business in the USA the only reason to move manufacturing to China is greed.

If Nike made shoes here and sold them for $100 they would probably make $25 on a pair
When you make them in China you make $50 a pair.

China is great for manufacturers, you make billionaires out of millionaires. It all about money isn't it?

If we keep sending work to China we have to depend on the few workers we have left here to pick up more of the tax burden.

Why don't people understand that more workers, low wage workers those poor people who voted for Obama, also pay taxes.

Again, as a business owner, why would I bother with health insurance & tax burdens, if it's cheaper and easier to have another country do the dirty work?

Many business owners agree with you. That's why the unemployment numbers are so high and those who still have jobs have to pay for the unemployed.

It's all about greed, that's why the very rich don't want higher taxes even though they are making more money by outsourcing.

It's the American way.

When your job gets outsourced come back and tell us how great that is for business.

Making smart business decisions to maximize profits is what business is about. Look at Wallstreet
stocks and see for yourself how Capitalism works. Look at your President's investments overseas and
at large - these investments are not here in the USA and he's our President! Would you call this greed or smart investing?

Yes I know it a global economy, hows that working out for those who are now unemployed because the American capitalists now employ foreign labor?

This is good for our country, how?

How do you know where the presidents has investments?

Anybody who invest overseas and not here is not a good American. If you buy clothes or furniture or any foreign made good you are not a good American.

We did not become the great American power we once were by manufacturing and importing everything from foreign companies.

These Capitalist that you admire so much are selling our country out because of their greed.

How do you know where the presidents has investments? - Google Search It!

Really, Have you bought anything from Walmart, K-Mart, Dollar General, Family Dollar? Look at where everything your are buying comes from. Martha Stewart Collection - China. Emeril Lagasse - China the list goes on,

We did not become the great American power we once were by manufacturing and importing everything from foreign companies. Do you recall Bill Clinton Signing into law the NFTA (free trade agreement) What happened after this took affect? Manufacturing jobs went out of our country like Ross Perot said it would "you will hear a giant sucking sound"

These Capitalist that you admire so much are selling our country out because of their greed.
The Capitalists Created jobs (calling them greedy?) - The Government Pushed the jobs out of the USA. Textiles & Tobacco here in NC went Bye Bye. Companies were forced to seek revenues
through other sources and that's normal business practice.

This Textile Mill that may open in NC - IMO seems very strange.
