Ok friend, I give, what does one do at a Boll Weevil Jamboree? I thought they were a pest?
The Home News (newspaper) mentioned a dessert contest with the Red Hat Ladies of Monroe doing the judging. There was a Baby Boll Weevil king and queen contest for children two and under. I am sure food and music will be included in there somewhere. I have tried to get through the downtown area when this event was happening, but I have never personally gone to it. I had to go back out on Highway 74, because I couldn't get through.
I think this is just a way of putting a positive swing on something that was a pest to the cotton growers.
The Apple Festival in Lincolnton is on that day....it's a huge event, drawing around 50,000 visitors!
Great! I have noticed a lot of things happening on this date and wondered what I may have missed. I guess it is just festival time in North Carolina and probably other places.
And the red hat ladies, http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x149/autumngal_photo/RedHatSmiley.gif (broken link), very nice!
Sounds like an excellent way to spend the day. I imagine it grows bigger and bigger every year, so traffic is unfortunately going to be the stickler point,
I agree cassy this time of the year is a splendid time for all these goodie events,

I guess Ashville and North Wilkesboro Apple Festivals will be following soon. I know the one in North Wilkesboro is in October, looks like October 6 this year. Anybody know about Asheville?
Maybe this thread should be renamed: What to do in North Carolina this Fall. This will give a few ideas to those who can't find anything to do in North Carolina.
