Is this a good idea? Looking for property that I can move into that is affordable. Would like to be debt free by making this move from Connecticut. Property there seems reasonable. Are there other small towns with affordable single family home that have nicer neighborhoods or services? Is this a friendly small town?
I can't say what it is like now but my brother lived there 8 years ago and it was fantastic. Very rural (as the name implies:-) but close enough (5-15 minutes) to everything you could need. He had 5 acres and a very beautiful house in a safe, pretty, rolling hills neighborhood for much, much less than you would pay for the same elsewhere. Again, though, that was 8 years ago.....
Rural Hall isn't a town as much as it is an incorporated area. It is a short commute to Winston-Salem. The land is still very cheap from what I've seen (I live in NW Guilford County, which isn't too far from there).
That area is comprised of rolling hills, pasture land, and some forested areas. You would not be too far away from Hanging Rock State Park (a mountain park with hiking trails, camping, and a lake for swimming/canoeing) and Pilot Mountain State Park.
I'm also considering a move from FL to Rural Hall. Any help with the area as far as middle schools and colleges would help. I'm looking for a nice area to raise my family.
