Would love to hear what the latest updates are. This is an old thread with some mixed reviews on Kinston. I am looking at a manufacturing job in the area. I'd be moving there with my partner of 14 years. We own a brewery at the coast but currently live in Durham. Unfortunately the brewery cannot support us yet so I still need to live near manufacturing. I've only ever visited the Mother Earth Brewery in Kinston and driven through on 70 headed to the beach. I've read lots of reviews negative and positive but would love some honest, current views of the city.

According to television news, there seem to be numerous violent crimes in Kinston. I assume they are mostly related to drugs or gangs. The middle class areas are probably safe enough.

The Chef and The Farmer restaurant was the best thing about Kinston. It closed for renovation in June. It was supposed to reopen in the fall of 2022, but it is apparently still closed.
If you are interested in living in Kinston, there is some very cheap real estate. There are nice, dignified older houses on the west side. There are also good houses with acreage outside the city limits. My personal preference would be to live in New Bern, but it may be to far to commute.

In Kinston you'll want to move to the western side of town or northwest of the city slightly outside the city limits. There are some nice homes and decent neighborhoods in those parts. West of Carey Rd. is the most ideal.
