I would like to know what are some of your favorite destinations in North Carolina if you were to head out for a day of shopping/looking at antiques. I love to take a day trip to do this sort of thing whenever I get a chance. It can be anywhere in the state--doesn't matter...Thanks!

Asheville is a great place for antique hunting. Google antiques Asheville, and it will list several. There are a few not on the list downtown, such as my favorite on Broadway called Magnolia Beauregards. Ronnie Myers has owned this store for many years and this store has the most authentic antiques. Next door is Stuff Antiques, which are more diverse in nature, such as vintage and unusual finds. I am out of the "junkin" business now, so there may be more places that I don't know about. I use to have booths at Sweeten Creek Ant. near Biltmore Village, and the gals that run it, will not knowingly, allow fake imports which is something to look for in some stores. The Screen Door is popular but you can not bargain prices there. Happy Hunting!
i second Selma. There are a slew of Antiques shops there. Even the town is an antique.
Plus, literally at the other end of the road, you'll run into downtown smithfield which has some nice shops and a nice feel as well. You also have Carolina Pottery in Smithfield at the outlets. It's not an antique store, but people who like antiques tend to like alot of the stuff in there. Though located at the outlets, it's a local store. They've opened a few more but the original store was in Smithfield.
Could you tell us where you are coming from. Are you planning on flying in from elsewhere or are you already in NC? It's a big state, so for example if you're in the east, Asheville isn't exactly an option for a day trip.
And, do you mean "Antiques-with-a-capital-A" such as Chippendale furniture, etc, or "antique store" in the more general "old stuff, ranging from Hot Wheels to Charlie's Angels trading cards to grandmother's silver"?
The thing I found disheartening about the shops in Selma is that most of their "antiques" I grew up with!
You're right, and in my case I found it literally true. I was in that one huge antique place that's warehouse-sized, going through yes, many items from my younger days, when I came across some wall decorations that I know had to have been ones that used to be my parents'. They were part of a larger set and the exact same ones were missing than had been at our house. It was quite freaky; I presume my folks ditched them at a yard sale when they were moving out of our house, and somehow they made their way to this "antique" store. No, I didn't buy them, because I have nowhere for them and even back in the day, we didn't have them on the wall, just in the attic. But I am certain they are the same ones (which made me wonder what else that used to be mine might have ended up there!)
