Are you crafty or have skills? Homemade stuff is very comforting.

Another idea, sorry I'm inspired, a journal and nice pen or stationary kit if she enjoys writing. She is likely to have extra time on her hands. DVDs of movies she will like, or books. If you guys like reading, do a mini book club and it will be something you can call and chat about to keep her mind off of things

If she's not into food, then I'd say flowers or bath stuff. I also like the suggestion for the audible subscription. She may change her mind about the food once she starts treatment, as another poster said.

If she lives in a big city and you decide to go the food route, Grub Hub and Seamless are ways you could send her a specific meal on short notice.

I asked someone who professionally works with people getting radiation. They said skip the food. Looking at fatigue, no desire to eat, aches and general discomfort.

So she agreed audible (cause of fatigue plus so much time to kill). Massage, mani & pedi, spa treatments, and homemade gifts...and contact as she is able

Yet another idea, Netflix. I was gravely ill for a month and all I did when I wasn't in the hospital is lay around watching Netflix movies and tv shows

Thanks everyone! I am not crafty at all, and she is! Amazing cook, baker and artist. Thank you all for such wonderful ideas!

I agree that as time goes on, food might not be a good idea. Maybe a collection of teas. Tea can be very soothing when you aren't able to stomach much food.

Prayers for your friend. So glad she has you! I like the flowers idea. Maybe you can call her once a week and read her some poetry. Find out a good time. Make it a bedtime story and your goal is to put her to sleep.

I used to read at a convalescent home and would pick a theme each week like cowboy poetry or nautical poetry (the Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald makes for some good reading).

Pay for a round of housekeeping services? If you can find a company that's trustworthy, I can't imagine you could do anything more helpful.

if she has a dog, find a dog walker to come a couple of times a week.....

Be careful about high sugar foods. Seems like most people going thru chemo and radiation avoid lots of sugar. Maybe google the Brave Girls Club and get her tee shirt or poster, etc.

Thanks all! Great suggestions. She has everything it seems. Housekeeper, kids to walk the dog, and tons and tons of friends that will help out with cooking if needed.
