I don't believe there was any discussion about anyone being harmed.
Saying that someone is "selfish" assumes that they are putting their needs and desires ahead of another person's needs and desires. Whose needs and desires are being ignored when someone decides to not have children?

Well there is a fine line between being selfish and self-centered. I would say that the child-avoiders are probably more self centered than they are selfish...at least in your classical definition.
