Although I don't always take criticism well, one thing about me is I often laugh at myself, and use self-deprecating humour, and that's one thing people have observed about me. On the other hand, I know quite a few people who seem not capable of being able to just laugh at themselves, and always get offended if someone makes jokes at their expense. I'm not sure if it's most, maybe most of us can at sometimes, but do you think most people are capable of truly being able to laugh at themselves or during a bad situation? Not take things too seriously?

It depends. Some folks can't find any humor in a situation unless it is at another's expense. That is kind of annoying.

Others readily can laugh at the absurdity of life, even when they "caused" the absurdity. Some people only feel embarrassment when they have done something silly/outrageous.

I think sometimes, it involves who a person is with at the time the faux pas occurs. It's a lot easier to laugh at one's own foibles when surrounded by people you know are not taking delight in your momentary lapse - but who can see the humor and laugh "with" you - not "at" you.

I find that on the rare occasion I laugh out loud at myself, some weird little error I might have made, or misunderstanding with someone, the person I'm with thinks I'm laughing at them, and gets offended. Strange, that.
