Yup....I notice this stuff all the time. What in the world did people ever do before they had cell phones? I refuse to join the club - I have a phone, a basic phone that doesn't do much except allow you to talk. I do not carry it around 24/7 or monitor it much. If I hear it, I answer it - but it doesn't own me - I own it!!! It's so laughable the way folks act about their phones - that it's actually kinda sad.
My phone actually collects dust. Most of the time it's not charged. I only have it for long trips, i.e., emergency situation. Really. I hate the damn thing.
Cell phones are the umbilical cord of the Millenial generation.
I find it so odd that many of them in my office building have to hold them in their hands looking at them constantly while going down the elevator to get lunch. Bet they sleep with them too
I have a phone. I use it, and I like it. That said, when I'm around friends and family, it's on vibrate in my bag. I turn it completely off at night and leave it on the kitchen table.
I work at a university, and it's not surprising how many students have and use phones, but it is surprising that things like taking a call at the dinner table, or not giving your friends your full attention in conversation because you're reading something else, or blocking a doorway/sidewalk/staircase because you've stopped to text aren't considered rude to them.
Try going to a movie these days. People have to have their stupid phones on right up to the start of the movie. Even then some will check their phones during the movie. Hey, genius, that little light is extremely bright in a dark room. After the movie, the phones light up like crazy. These people are like heroin addicts. One guy was walking down the stairs of a theater and almost fell because he was so busy checking his phone. I've asked people to turn off their phones in a movie and received an angry response.
It is also extremely rude to be on your phone while at the cash register of a store. I know a few places that have signs saying you will not be served if you're on your phone. Bravo. I saw one guy get very upset when they enforced this rule.

I always love it when you're on a plane and after landing they announce that you can use devices again. People act like they've been in the desert without water for days. "We're at the gate!" "We're here!" as if they couldn't wait the five minutes to get off the plane and place a call outside of the earshot of dozens of people.

Yup, I know what you mean. What is it with people? I know this is off topic, but have you seen what happens at Costco when they give out chicken wings as samples? People mob the area like they're giving away bars of gold.

I am a proud owner of a Galaxy Note II. It is super handy for things like writing mom an email at work, coordinating events as a Meetup organizer, listening to tunes or playing games while im on the train, or keeping up with grad school homework. I use my phone frequently and I will not make any apologies for it.
