If it was anyone other than my husband, I'd probably have one of those moments of horror mixed with hilarity.

I just hope I'm not drinking something when they tell me that. Not a pretty mental image.

I would be flattered. My friend once said that she thought about me. But we were already FWB.

In all seriousness, this is funny because it just shows that while everyone of either gender likes 'to be desired' there is likely a context and qualifying variables within which the 'desire' will be perceived positively and then certain perceptions it will be taken negatively.

As a social communication convention, I imagine many in long term relationships, or distant relationships, convey these thoughts / feelings quite often. I think the best compliments are those that compliment character qualities of another versus selfish desires toward another.

Personally, I would never say this to a woman I was interested in, as it is classless behavior, analogous to the old line about swearing being a form of showing your ignorance and lack of ability in expressing yourself - so too, is using lines such as this to convey ones feelings for a woman.

I've written poetry to women I've been enamored of - but why one would actually say 'this' is beyond me. As I think it just conveys one's crassness.
