I've been noticing that people don't seem to be as friendly and generous towards one another like they used to be and I personally think that it's really unfortunate that people are becoming less friendly and generous towards one another.

Could be you. Realize you (as an individual through the stages of life) may have changed more in say the past 10 or 20 years than the world as a whole has.
The 60 year old curmudgeon was once an idealistic young man.

Oh boy
Facebook hardly counts...just read any article on the recent Treyvon, George Zimmerman trial and read those comments. Sure it allows for a person's true nature to be revealed but more times than most it's just a lot of people bored and perpetrating, hoping to stir up controversy, drama, and gain attention.
I think most people just rather keep to themselves, not because they have a malicious heart or aren't sociable, just moreso that our American culture teaches us things like "don't stare, don't talk to strangers, etc, etc." I actually find myself on the subway wondering why I don't smile more at the stranger looking over in my direction, instead I go "don't look, don't look, don't look...don't want to be rude, don't look!"
