I have a 2012 with the same power train and with the cvt the engine screams from a start under moderate acceleration due to the cvt keeping it at high rpms until u reach optimal speed.
It's not so bad when you're already cruising at highway speeds. Its actually quite smooth. From a dead stop or in the winter when the engine hasn't fully warmed up though, it sounds horrible.
Very much like the redesigned 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander with the four cylinder (with the third row seating). More or less the same weight, HP and CVT. At least the Outlander has a V6 option with a six speed automatic.
I have driven maybe 4 or 5 different CVT vehicles, all Nissan. I have vowed to never buy one from Nissan. Maybe if Honda or Toyota can make it work.
Apart from them all acting weird, the two that stuck out were:
-2012 Nissan Versa - Worked GREAT in the city. But when driving down the highway at 55MPH, it would randomly shoot up to 4000RPM. For no reason
-2013 Nissan Sentra - When acellerating lightly or moderately, it will lug the engine at 1100RPM. Unfortunately, the engine is not balanced enough and you get a horrible reverberation through the entire cabin of the car. I can only imagine that will get worse as the car gets older.
This I agree with. The crv is just plane ugly and oddly proportioned. I prefer the 2012 body to the newer 2013. As for the new rav4. It looks like a tall Corolla. I'd take the previous generation v6 any day.
To each his own but I guess we may be in the minority because I see tons of 4G CVRs out on the road.
How is the Nissan Rogue at 170 hp and 3600 lb curb weight going to cart 7 passengers and their gear with any sort of decent pickup? The vehicle will not be able to move under it's own weight!! In addition there is a power sapping CVT!! This is a disaster! In their quest to chase mpg I am thinking they may have created a vehicle that is utterly gutless.
Everyone's being forced into the MPG chase by rising CAFE standards and rising gas prices, which is making MPGs more important to the car buyer. And while some manufacturers have implemented some neat tricks like direct injection and advanced transmissions, the classic smaller engine + less horsepower = higher fuel economy always works in a pinch.
came out today...yawn!! 170hp weakling of an engine to move 7 passengers with such a heavy vehicle? Are they kidding? Wait till you try to drive that uphill (and we have a lot of mountain passes here in California) the thing is going to suck! It will barely move, it's a dog!!
They should've put in a 250hp turbo option for those that want more pep.
I'm thinking 0-60 in the 11-12 second range...zzzz, you may be able to pass a few Geo Metros though
Before I even read your post, my first thought was..... Yawn, it's so boring let's see what he is posting here.
First line right off the bat, you nailed it!
Nissan spent SOO much money on the launch of this thing too... Platform sharing it's just so easy to spread those costs around! A better move would have been to put standard leather steering wheels in all of their cars across the existing model line.
I think the 4-cyl metros with a 5-spd might show this thing up though. Scary.
