I got there on a January and it was funny watching the people that weren't used to winter weather when they got there. It can get pretty cold there, but also keep in mind that the snow gets taken care of in a timely manner.

Annedore, since you're coming from Heidelberg the weather won't be too much of a shock. Little bit colder, and a lot more snow and wind coming off of Lake Ontario just to the west. Watertown isn't anywhere near as beautiful as Heidelberg, though . Also, you won't hit the really good winter weather until January/February time frame.

While Watertown is what it is, nearby places like Sackets Harbor, the 1000 Islands and the Adirondacks , which are a bit further out, are all nice areas with natural beauty.
