Is new york really that bad that it crazy for a single mom to move there from another state i have alway wanted to move there but not for the rest of my life just for a year so i want have any regret for when i move back to california for good reading this form about new york is crazy i just hope it not that bad as people keep saiding it is.
It is crazy in the sense that government has too much power and is completely out of control in spending, expanding government and over taxing it's citizens. Just take a look at the news media that is so heavily biased in favor of increased taxes and Socialism. Then look where most of them based out of, NYC.
However it is one of the most beautiful states in the nation and there is always plenty of things to do.

It's no better or no worse than where you live... California. An equally expensive state that is losing population... albeit it gets more sunshine.
In Upstate NY, if you find a good job, you will enjoy some of the cheapest cost of living in the country. NY has a tremendous amount of things to do.
Cheap? Well, you do enjoy lower gasoline costs compared to Buffalo, but there is nothing cheap about our real estate taxes on top of our income (state) taxes on top of our sales taxes (levied on the entire price of every car every time it is sold as well as almost every other item in a shopping basket, save "essential" food).
Oh yeah, a house can be bought inexpensively. Building, repairing, permitting...all cost as much or more than other areas of the nation. Food? Some of it is cheaper, some costs much more, depending.
I live in "cheap" Wyoming County and I see nothing cheap about life in upstate NY...and I finally have a "good" job, but i have to commute 20,000 to 30,000 miles per year to get to it.
Things to do are great if you have the money AND free time. The way it works around here, you either have the time or the money, but rarely both. You must be one of those "well paid" professionals. Sorry, I shouldn't have said that, but I can't erase it either...it does seem that those with professional schedules and salaries are much happier in upstate WNY than those who punch a clock. I'm just saying...

It always takes a lot of adjustments and be able to easily adapt to new environment to do so when you'll move to places it'll be easier for you. So I guess it's depends on your quality of living if you'll got to reside in NY.
It also depends on where you specifically came from(rural,suburbs,city). NY has it all. City speaks for itself and television does show it off somewhat.Long island is mostly a bunch of suburban areas. Upstate and western,ny have all 3 but are much cheaper then the 2 previous areas.
