My husband and I live on LI and have all our lives. We have a deposit on a beautiful piece of land in Quogue to build a house on. However, I just don't know about the school district in WHB. I saw some beautiful homes in Tuxedo Park NY which is a very very affulent area, but to me it's UPSTATE.
I feel like it would be so FAR from LI. It is a 40 minute commute to NYC, but I wonder if it would be a real change from the LI atmosphere and If I would find it lonely.

I also love being near the ocean. Tuxedo is around lakes.

Anyone know about this area and the schools?

Smile Some info about WHB

Hi - I've lived in WHB since 1984 and I have kids in the school district now; one in middle school and one in the high school (one graduated in 2005). The school district is very good, and has a good repuatation. It is one of the better school districts in the area. Right now they have something called the Laptop Initiative in place. Every student in the middle school and the high school has a laptop paid for by the district. The school district has several feeder districts as well. We get students from Remsenburg, East Quogue and Quogue in seventh grade; in ninth grade we also get students from East Moriches. The high school has around 950 students or so.
Quogue is a beautiful area as you know if you bought property there. One of the good things about this area is we don't have to deal with the traffic problems like they have out east, as we're off the beaten path. However, there is quite the population increase in the summers; make no mistake about that! This is a major resort area. It can cramp your style a bit at times, but I like things quiet, and I'll be honest - I'm always happy when September rolls around.
I should also say too, that we've met some very nice people through the schools over the years. The parents care about their kids, and support them at athletic contests and performances etc. It's a nice little town.
Well, I hope that helps you a little bit. Good luck!
