An interesting historical reference of a singer/performer that was big in the soviet Union that was born in Churchville, just SW of Rochester in 1881: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/...ovna-arle_titz
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coretti_Arle-Titz

So, it seems like a lot of early black migrants to the Rochester area came from VA.

A True Underdog: Auburn's Nas Smith makes most of opportunity with Central Connecticut St. https://cnycentral.com/sports/conten...connecticut-st

As mentioned previously in the thread, Holland Stadium is named after this Renaissance man: https://footballfoundation.org/sport...rud-holland/77

As far as I know, this former QB at Auburn High(also played QB at Iowa State) is the only one from there to play in the NFL to my knowledge(with the Washington Redskins, also played in CFL and USFL): https://www.discogs.com/artist/4703636-Buddy-Hardeman

^Here is a historical source from the 1972 All Upstate HS Football team from the former Syracuse Herald Journal: https://access-newspaperarchive-com....&psb=relevance

Some others from that team, with references from schools such as the former Elmira Free Academy, Utica’s(original) Proctor High and Vestal: https://access-newspaperarchive-com....&psb=relevance

This one from 1989(1988 season) features a couple of references that played in the NFL from Syracuse’s Nottingham High and at the time Utica Senior Academy, including one of the co-Players of the Year: https://access-newspaperarchive-com....0&psi=67&pci=7

Here is another historical All Upstate team from 1957, which has the late Ernie Davis during his time at Elmira Free Academy before becoming the first black player to win the Heisman Trophy(1961 during his time at Syracuse University): https://access-newspaperarchive-com....&psb=relevance

His senior year picture from 1958: https://www.classmates.com/siteui/ye...797059?page=38

More information about Davis: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernie_Davis

There is a school in the Elmira City SD and a dormitory at Syracuse University named after him.
