No kidding. Some of the stores by me have been handing out plastic bags just like old times.
I don't mind. I use them to line my garbage bins. But that may all come to an end... maybe...

State regulators charged with overseeing the ban on single-use plastic shopping bags are overwhelmed by complaints, with more than 300 reported violators yet to be checked on, data obtained by THE CITY shows.

The Department of Environmental Conservation, the state agency that’s supposed to enforce the new regulation, has received 500 email complaints from concerned New Yorkers since the law took effect last October, the department said.

State investigators have conducted just 195 store visits, issuing 69 warning notices, all to spots in New York City and Long Island, according to the DEC. Only one shop in the seven counties has been hit with a cash-penalty violation for continued disregard of the new law since May 5, the records show.

Environmental activists called on the Cuomo administration to do more.

Imagine having nothing better to do with your time than emailing the DEC to tell them some supermarket somewhere is using plastic bags.

The ban has to be enforced or else we might as well not have it. That said, most of the places I've been to lately don't have plastic bags. I've gotten into the habit of carrying a cloth one with me.

90%+ of plastic in the ocean is the result of Asian fishing boats. Worrying about bags or straws is the height of limo liberalism.

This whole ban on plastic bags is just stupid. I hate having to carry reusable bags every time I go out shopping.

The reusable bags are a suspected covid super spreader.

I had to go food shopping yesterday in the Adirondacks. It's amazing how quickly you forget stupid stuff like this once you move to a state that doesn't have such an asinine law.

I put all the food into my car loose rather than hand over more tribute to Cuomo.

And that’s the issue with many of us NYers. Many of us walk to the supermarket and carry our groceries rather than drive. This is why I don’t understand why they had to outlaw plastic bags in a state where many people need it the most.
