We would love to relocate to Ithaca, but just can't afford the city prices. Are there any areas that you can recommend that are within 15 minutes of Ithaca? We are a family of four, two young children. We would like a neighborhood that has a lot of families and a few local shops.
Trumansburg, Dryden, Newfield, Groton, and Lansing are all small towns in the county with some shopping (not much in Newfield), and their own schools. Should be cheaper than Ithaca. Good luck.
we live in newfield..not much shopping..but not much need for it either with ithaca being so close. all the other towns mentioned are seconded by myself as well. the pro about newfield though, is that the school is excellent. I have a daughter in pre-k there. and i'm sure with a family that size, school is a big priority for you. its a great school.
Groton is very nice, but I'm biased since I grew up there. Someone told me that it has become a "gay mecca". Probably means that it's cleaner than it used to be. Schools are excellent and it's cheaper than Ithaca.
